Good Process of Reading

Preparing to Read

Before you start to read any text you should  prepare for reading :

1-Why am I going to read this text ?,why did I pick it ?

2-Where does this text come from ?,what source does it come from (newspaper/magazine,etc.) ?

-what do I know about this source ?

-Have I already read materials from this source ? What was my experience  ?

3-What kind of text is it ? (news story,editorial,advertisement,etc)

4-Author ,Who wrote this text ?, What do I know about author ?How can I find  out more about the author ?.

5-External structure. Are there any graphics/pictures ? What is the title ?

6-Without reading the text what is your prediction about this text ? (what might this text speak about ?)

7-What do I know about the topic I think this is about ?,What kind of vocabulary can I expect to find in a text on this topic ?,what do I want to know about this topic ? what I hope to learn about this topic from this text ?

FIRST READING

1- First Reading ( Skimming ) : Read quickly.Do not look up any words.Then turn it over so you can not see it .Ask your self if your prediction was correct ? if not what is this text about ?

It will be good if you discuss in pair with some one.

2- After first reading ,turn the text back over so you can see it .Do not read .Simply focus on the external form of the text.

How is the text organized ? How many paragraphs are there ?

Are there any secondary/explanatory titles/subtitles ?
